On Monday August 20 and Tuesday August 21, U.S. Representatives Alcee Hastings (FL-20) and Ted Deutch (FL-22) toured Broward MPO Complete Streets projects in their districs. Rep. Hastings toured projects on Sunset Strip (Sunrise), NW 31st Avenue (Lauderdale Lakes/Oakland Park/Fort Lauderdale), and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (Pompano Beach), while Rep. Deutch toured projects on Old Dixie Highway (Fort Lauderdale), Wilton Drive/NE 4th Avenue (Wilton Manors/Fort Lauderdale), and A1A (Fort Lauderdale).
Present at the tour with Rep. Hastings were several Broward MPO Board and local elected officials, including: Broward MPO Board Chair and Hollywood Commissioner Richard Blattner, Sunrise Deptuy Mayor Larry Sofield, Lauderdale Lakes Vice Mayor Beverly Williams, and Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Hazelle Rogers. Present on the tour with Rep. Deutch was Wilton Manors Vice Mayor Justin Flippin.
”I want to thank Congressmen Hastings and Deutch for touring these important transportation projects in their districts,” said MPO Executive Director Greg Stuart. “Both Reps. Hastings and Deutch have been strong advocates for increasing transportation funding in Washington and we appreciate their hard work and engagement on transportation and infrastructure issues.”
"As our region prepares for the future, we need to continue making our streets safer and more easily travelled," said Rep. Hastings. "The project locations I visited today showcase Broward’s long-term vision for making our roads more accessible to bicyclists and pedestrians as part of an important initiative to connect streets with new bike lanes, sidewalks, crossings, and lighting. Our residents should know that they have a great team working tirelessly to make Broward a better place for everyone who lives or visits here. I am pleased to work closely with the MPO to ensure the needs of our county are met and supported by federal resources whenever possible,” said Hastings.
