SFRTA/Tri-Rail Receives $31.63 Million for Positive Train Control

On May 31, The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced $197 million dollars worth of grants for Positive Train Control (PTC) installation across the country. The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA)/Tri-Rail was awarded $31.63 million dollars to complete installing their Interoperable Electronic Train Management System (I-ETMS) PTC system.

This system will help modernize the South Florida Rail Corridor, not just for Tri-Rail trains but for the CSX Freight and Amtrak passenger trains that use the corridor as well. The installation of Positive Train Control will improve safety on the corridor and ensure the latest technology is used on the South Florida Rail Corridor.
