Last week, a diverse group of professionals represented the Broward region in the Walkability Action Institute (WAI) 2019 training organized by the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD). This is the first time the BMPO applied for the grant and we were selected among other MPO's in the Nation! This is also the first time Florida has representatives. This year's awarded teams are:
- COLORADO, North Front Range
- FLORIDA, Broward County
- FLORIDA, Daytona
- HAWAII, Maui
- INDIANA, Marshall County
- OREGON, Clackamas County
- OREGON, Lane County
- PENNSYLVANIA, Montgomery County
- VERMONT, Northwest
- WASHINGTON, Spokane
The NACDD in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion’s (NCCDPHP) Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity (DNPAO), announced the 10 interdisciplinary regional teams (listed above) that received travel assistance to attend the 2019 Step It Up!
The purpose of the WAI is to prepare interdisciplinary teams from MPO regions (or other similar regional entities) to pursue policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) supports for walking and walkability. This action institute, the 2019 Step It Up! Action Institute to Increase Walking and Walkability, was held in Decatur, GA, April 22-25. It provided the 10 finalists teams with the most up-to-date academic and applied learning methods and reinforced and supported the implementation of significant national public health policy statements promoting walking and walkability. It was also an opportunity to interact with renowned course faculty from the NACDD. These interactions provided participant teams with an optimal learning experience.
