An Overview of MCPs and the Role of the MPO

Broward County’s Mobility Advancement Program (MAP) provides funding for Municipal Capital Projects (MCPs) to design and construct a variety of improvements. MCPs add capacity to existing roadways or bridges, provide traffic calming improvements, build new roadways or bridges, and deliver other improvements such as sidewalks, bike lanes, street lighting, and landscaping. The improvements eligible for funding are governed by Florida Statutes Section 212.055(1) and further defined in the Second Amendment of the Interlocal Agreement (ILA).

The Broward MPO will work with participating municipalities to submit New MCPs applications via an online application process. Then, we evaluate and rank MCPs based on a criterion approved by the County Administrator. Finally, we recommend a phase (design or construction) of the highest-ranked New MCPs within the Minimum Annual Guarantee (MAG) to the MAP Administrator for possible inclusion into Broward County’s Five-Year Plan.
