The Broward MPO, in partnership with Port Everglades, has submitted an Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) Grant to the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) for improvements to Port Everglades. The $50 million dollar Grant would help pay for the Intermodal Freight Connector Project, and would ensure that Port Everglades continues as Florida's leading containerized cargo port. The Intermodal Freight Connect Project will create the necessary berth and upland capacity to handle a greater number of larger ships coming from the expanded Panama Canal.

Currently, Port Everglades supports 12,840 direct jobs locally, and the Intermodal Freight Connector Project is projected to provide a $10.7 billion dollar annual increase in economic activity related to the Port, and create 2,227 construction jobs in the near term.
